Mach One Conference

28 & 29 June / London MACH ONE Conference

On July 30th, Sam Newman, one of the most well-known experts on microservices-based enterprise architectures and the author of Building Microservices (O'Reilly, 2014) and Monolith to Microservices (O'Reilly, 2019) was the guest of the MACH Alliance for a webinar. Kelly Goetsch, the President of the MACH Alliance, hosted the webinar on "How to migrate from a legacy suite-style monolith to microservices using the strangler pattern?".

In the webinar Sam provides specific guidance on how to gradually go from a single vendor environment to a more microservices focused one using the strangler pattern.

Watch the recording of the webinar and the Q&A session (separate file because of the length) below and underneath you can find some insightful quotes from Sam.

"Decomposition from a monolithic application to microservices is not a quick process."

"We all have experience with vendor software that does not play nice with the applications we build."

"The most interesting property we're looking for from our microservices architecture is the idea of independent deployability. The idea that I can make a change to the microservice, or deploy a new version of it into the production environment without having to change any other parts of the system."
